어제 별똥별을 보고 싶었으나 방충망을 열다 철제틀이 10여미터 가량 자유낙하하며 위대한 만유인력의 법칙을 온 몸으로 보여주길레 (다행히 아무도 없었다) 크게 당황. 결국 주섬주섬 줏어입고 주워왔다. 지금은 어떻게든 다시 달아놓았는데 내 다시는 여나 봐라...

새벽 세시가 되어가도록 광공해로 가득찬 서울밤하늘이 별 깨끗한 순결함을 자랑하길레 (한 두셋 본듯) 빡쳐서 개소리 좀 하려다가 '허세를 부리려면 제대로 부려야지'하는 생각에 영어로 끼적끼적 해봤다. 원래는 더 길게 쓰려고 했는데 귀찮아서...

The renowned Immanuel Kant for this works on ethics is known to have praised the stars and the inner principles of the human mind. Although I must admit that the simile had been used to consecrate his thesis on conscience, the phrase itself is quite cool, so I'll adduce it.

Two things fill the mind with ever-increasing wonder and awe, the more often and the more intensely the mind of thought is drawn to them: the starry heavens above me and the moral law within me.

Though his views on moral principles are not as cogent as they were when I first encountered them, I do assimilate with his awe-filled eyes reflecting starlight. Sympathy of stargazers separated by several millennia! (for now forget that it's only a couple of hundred years. Millennia sounds much cooler than centuries) What could be more captivating than such a congruence? I am absolutely confident that this sentiment is absolutely ubiquitous; for the past myriad generations and the future millennia that follows, the sidereal lights were and will be an undiminishing luminescence that shed light onto our minute corporeal beings; sometimes showing serendipitous aisles for tyros in heed, and another time giving hearted warmth to those in need. To put it brief, stars have always enthralled me, and I'm sure that it's the same for you.

P.S.1 가끔 무언가 밤하늘을 가로지르는 듯 한 느낌이 들기는 했는데 진짜 본건지 아니면 기분탓인지는 모르겠다.

P.S.2 내 방 창은 남향인데 북동쪽을 보아야 했다는 것을 듣고는 좌절했다.

오늘 Facebook에 올린 허세글. 원래는 글을 더 길게 쓰고 (군대 이야기가 들어갈 예정이었음) 한글로 적은 내용을 전부 영어로 쓸 계획까지 있었는데 귀찮아서 때려치웠다. GRE 공부하다 보니 좀 더 허세끼있게 쓰는데 도움이 되는듯. 물론 허세의 완성은 어설픈 문법이지만 글쓰기 연습도 하고 있어서 문법의 파괴까지는 차마 하질 못했다.
